Is there anything you can do about your Equifax score? Shouldn’t it be at least close to the same as Experian and TransUnion? And why do most banks use them to check your credit for auto loans? They are so aggravating. They don’t even show a lot of my credit information, like saying I have no open bank cards when I do. Is there anything I can do to correct this? I need to buy a car, but I keep getting turned down for a loan because of my Equifax score.

There are a few credit inquiries on my credit reports that I don’t know anything about. I suspect that I might be a victim of identity theft even though no negative items have showed up yet. I am considering placing an alert with the credit bureaus, but I’m not sure if this will have a negative effect on my credit score. If you have experience with this, could you please let me know? I received my credit report from Experian and there was an item on it that showed I owed more money than I thought I did. I requested an investigation and the results said that that the item was deleted. Does this mean that I don’t owe the debt or does it just mean that no one will see it when they run a credit check? Also, do I need to dispute it with the other credit bureaus too?

What types of credit accounts are needed to get a high credit score?

            August 17, 2010 · Posted in Credit Repair · 11 Comments

I would like to improve my credit score (it’s about 615) in order to qualify for a mortgage with a low interest rate in about a year or so. I currently have an auto loan and three revolving credit accounts (all bank credit cards). Two of the credit cards are new and the other one is almost a year old. My auto loan will be a year old in a few months. Would my score go up if I apply for more credit? If so what type of credit? What is a good mixture of credit to have to get a higher credit score?

Little known secrets for improving your credit score

            August 10, 2010 · Posted in Free Credit Report · 6 Comments

What’s the fastest way to raise your credit score? To quote the classic magazine salesman from the movie Office Space “That all depends”…

While the removal of negative items from your credit report will almost always result in an increase in your credit score, there is a method that works better.

Here’s why. Adding positive accounts is actually more effective at improving your credit score (in the short term) than removing negative ones. Unfortunately, few consumers or credit repair companies know this.

One of the biggest problems with trying to get approved for new credit is that you need to “have” credit in order to be approved. This causes a sort of catch 22.

How does one “get” credit if no one will give them credit because they don’t have any credit to begin with? A vicious cycle indeed, but a real one. However, if you have someone you can use a cosigner this is NOT a problem. Simply have them cosign on the new credit application for you. If you don’t have a cosigner, read on.

Contrary to popular belief (or what myfico and credit repair companies would like you to believe), the largest factor in building a solid foundation for your credit score comes down to two credit scoring factors:

            1.) The “High Credit Limit”

            and

2.) Your “Debt to Credit” Ratio

Your high credit limit is simply the total amount of primary unsecured revolving credit lines you have (i.e. three credit cards at $5,000 each equals a high credit limit of $15,000).

            Get it? Good.

Your debt to credit ratio is simply the amount owed on these cards in relation to your high credit limit (i.e. if your high credit limit was $15,000 and you owed $7500 your debt to credit ratio would be %50).

Keep in mind, your high credit limit is comprised ONLY of your total amount of unsecured revolving lines of credit. Home mortgages, auto loans, student loans, equipment leases and debit cards do NOT count towards your high credit limit.

A debt to credit ratio of 25% or less is ideal. Of course, there are many other factors which come into play, but keeping it simple, how does one improve credit score via increasing their high credit limit and lowering their debt to credit ratio?

            That is the question….

The fastest way we have found is by adding primary user unsecured revolving lines of credit which are guaranteed approval (note: these are NOT authorized user accounts!). These are unsecured lines of credit which appear on your report just like a visa card, mastercard or department store card etc.

We have found that while unsecured credit is the most difficult to obtain, it has proven to be the highest scoring on ones credit report. To find out the fastest we’ve found to add primary unsecured revolving lines of credit to your credit report, please visit:

How is it Possible to have a Credit Score of 877?

            July 31, 2010 · Posted in Equifax Credit Report · 7 Comments

I recently got my credit score using a 3 bureau estimate from Equifax and the result was 877. I researched credit scores online and found that 850 is supposed to be the maximum for FICO scores. If this is true, how could anyone have a credit score higher than that? I’ve had credit for over 35 years and I have never been late on any payment ever. But still, how could it be over 850? Does anyone know how this could be possible? Thanks.

Defend Against Identity Theft – Advice From The FTC

              July 27, 2010 · Posted in Identity Theft · 7 Comments

In the course of a busy day, you may write a check at the grocery store, charge tickets to a ball game, rent a car, mail your tax returns, change service providers for your cell phone, or apply for a credit card. Chances are you don’t give these everyday transactions a second thought. But an identity thief does. Identity theft is a serious crime. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years and thousands of dollars cleaning up the mess the thieves have made of a good name and credit record. In the meantime, victims of identity theft may lose job opportunities, be refused loans for education, housing, or cars, and even get arrested for crimes they didn’t commit. Humiliation, anger, and frustration are among the feelings victims experience as they navigate the process of rescuing their identity. Working with other government agencies and organizations, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has produced this booklet to help you remedy the effects of an identity theft. It describes what steps to take, your legal rights, how to handle specific problems you may encounter on the way to clearing your name, and what to watch for in the future.

What information do you get from annualcreditreport.com?

I would like to know my credit score. I have done some research and it looks like the only one the government endorses is annualcreditreport.com

I was wondering, what information do you actually get? I have heard that you only get a general status like “good, fair, excellent” and not your actual credit score. Is this correct?

If that’s right, where can you get your score without getting ripped off by one of the sites that require credit card info?

I got my free credit reports from all three credit reporting agencies today. I didn’t find any errors on Experian or Equifax but TransUnion has an additional name on my credit record with them. I don’t understand why they would have all her crap on my report! I have already contacted TransUnion to dispute this and I’m waiting for their response. Although I just discovered this today, this has probably been on my report for some time. I definitely intend to keep following up but I’d like to know if anyone else has ever had this happen to them and what and was the outcome. Also, will TransUnion just remove all of this or is this going to be a long drawn out process?

I know you can get free credit reports from the three credit bureaus every year, but is this based on a calendar year or does it depend on the date which you requested them?

For example, if I ordered all three on June 22nd, 2010, would I be able to order all three again on January 1st, 2011, or would I have to wait until June 22nd, 2011?

How do I improve my credit score?

                July 2, 2010 · Posted in Credit Repair · 5 Comments

Three years ago I went crazy and opened five store credit cards to save money with the initial discount on my purchases. This must have hurt my credit score because I don’t have any late payments or anything else that would have lowered it. I would like to improve my credit scores so I’m looking for answers to these questions:

                1) How long will it take before those inquiries fall off my credit report?

                2) Would closing any of these store credit cards increase my credit score?

                3) I owe over $50,000 in student loans that will hopefully be discharged soon due to my disability. Will the student loans being discharged increase my credit score?

                Thank you for your answers.

I disputed a few items on my Equifax credit report and they were taken off. I just want to know the steps I should take to ensure an expedient outcome without having to write multiple letters to each one.

I have had several accounts opened in my name due to identity theft. I think a corrupt mortgage broker took my information and did this. Anyway, I paid on two accounts for at least six months, which was really stupid. In December I decided that enough was enough so I stopped paying and started to take action. My lawyer says that these can still be proven, but it seems hopeless. Could somebody that works in this field or has experience with this give me some advice?
