How is it Possible to have a Credit Score of 877?

July 31, 2010 · Posted in Equifax Credit Report

I recently got my credit score using a 3 bureau estimate from Equifax and the result was 877. I researched credit scores online and found that 850 is supposed to be the maximum for FICO scores. If this is true, how could anyone have a credit score higher than that? I’ve had credit for over 35 years and I have never been late on any payment ever. But still, how could it be over 850? Does anyone know how this could be possible? Thanks.

All 3 bureaus will sell a vantage score which goes from 501-990. The score you got was an Equifax Vantage score which will differ from your Vantage score from the other 2. Just so you know, these scores are useless because lenders don’t use them. If you want to see your FICO scores from the 3 bureaus, which are the ones lenders use, go to http://www.myfico.com and purchase your individual scores from Transunion and Equifax (note: Experian has dropped their partnership with FICO, so you will no longer be able to see your Experian FICO score at all). They will charge you about $15 for each score and report. Its worth it to do this at least once a year to see where you stand.

Go to another credit reporting agency and run the report again. My folks have never been late neither and they don’t have a credit score that high. It’s like between 800-810.

If your fico is >800 then cheer up. You have great credit!

They are probably using the "vantage score" versus FICO. Vantage score ranges up to 990.
      Here’s a wiki on it:

I wouldn’t worry about it. Check out your FICO at http://www.myfico.com and see what it says. Congratulations on being in the elite.

Getting the vantage score is the best idea to raise your credit score upto 900.
