Why does Equifax calculate their scores different than the other two credit bureaus?

Is there anything you can do about your Equifax score? Shouldn’t it be at least close to the same as Experian and TransUnion? And why do most banks use them to check your credit for auto loans? They are so aggravating. They don’t even show a lot of my credit information, like saying I have no open bank cards when I do. Is there anything I can do to correct this? I need to buy a car, but I keep getting turned down for a loan because of my Equifax score.

Are there any drawbacks for placing an alert with the credit bureaus?

    May 25, 2011 · Posted in Identity Theft · 5 Comments

There are a few credit inquiries on my credit reports that I don’t know anything about. I suspect that I might be a victim of identity theft even though no negative items have showed up yet. I am considering placing an alert with the credit bureaus, but I’m not sure if this will have a negative effect on my credit score. If you have experience with this, could you please let me know? Thanks.

Experian deleted an item from my credit report. Does this mean I no longer owe anything?

        August 26, 2010 · Posted in Experian Credit Report · 4 Comments

I received my credit report from Experian and there was an item on it that showed I owed more money than I thought I did. I requested an investigation and the results said that that the item was deleted. Does this mean that I don’t owe the debt or does it just mean that no one will see it when they run a credit check? Also, do I need to dispute it with the other credit bureaus too?

Are the free annual credit reports based on a calendar year?

        July 6, 2010 · Posted in Free Credit Report · 4 Comments

I know you can get free credit reports from the three credit bureaus every year, but is this based on a calendar year or does it depend on the date which you requested them?

For example, if I ordered all three on June 22nd, 2010, would I be able to order all three again on January 1st, 2011, or would I have to wait until June 22nd, 2011?

        Thanks for the help.

I know most lenders use the mid score of the three popular credit bureaus but I have heard there are some that only use Transunion. I am trying to refinance my mortgage and my Transunion score is higher than the other two, so I would like to know which lenders do this.
