Is Transunion the only credit bureau that matters?

Seriously, almost 100% of all important businesses check your credit report from transunion. What’s the point of  Experian and Equifax? I looked at all 3 reports and all inquiries were on transunion.

From the US Treasury Dept. Explains how to obtain free credit reports from the credit bureaus. Also explains how Fraud Alerts work and how to activate them.  Identity theft is a serious crime. It occurs when your personal information is stolen and used without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. Identity theft can cost you time and money. It can destroy your credit and ruin your good name. Deter identity thieves by safeguarding your information. ■ Shred financial documents and paperwork with personal information before you discard them. ■ Protect your Social Security number. Don’t carry your Social Security card in your wallet or write your Social Security number on a check. Give it out only if absolutely necessary or ask to use another identifier. ■ Don’t give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the Internet unless you know who you are dealing with. ■ Never click on links sent in unsolicited emails; instead, type in a web address you know. Use firewalls, anti-spyware, and anti-virus software to protect your home computer; keep them up-to-date. Does a free credit report show everything or do you have to pay to see it all?

            April 19, 2010 · Posted in Free Credit Report · 5 Comments

I got my free credit reports (from experian, transunion and equifax’s website) and was wondering if it is a full report or partial report. Do you have to actually buy your credit report to see everything that’s on it? I don’t want to have to buy it if all it’s going to show is what I have already seen on the free report.

I have two identity theft accounts that have been turned over to collection agencies. How can I remove them?

              April 17, 2010 · Posted in Identity Theft · 7 Comments

Someone used my social security number to apply for SBC and Direct TV. I never receive bills from them. When I found out about these accounts, they already showed as collection on my credit report. These are having a negative effect on my credit. I called up the collection agency for SBC and told them this is not my account but they are not willing to remove it. I called the Federal Trade Commission but they said that they couldn’t do anything about this. I tried to contact a free legal aide but they didn’t return my call! How can I remove these identity theft accounts?
